New York City Mayor Eric Adams refused to discuss the FBI investigation during a public event. Adams did not respond to questions about whether other members of his team had also had their phones seized by the FBI, and instead walked away, mentioning that the event was about helicopters. He suggested that he might answer questions during his next scheduled news briefing on Tuesday. FBI agents stopped Adams last week as he was leaving a public event and took his electronic devices, including phones and an iPad. The investigators are looking into whether Adams inappropriately tried to help the Turkish government get city approval to open a 35-story skyscraper housing diplomatic facilities in 2021. This investigation has prompted concerns about campaign finance and potential illegal campaign contributions from foreign sources. The U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan, which is overseeing the investigation, has not commented on the matter. Adams has stated that he has not been accused of any wrongdoing and will cooperate with investigators.
