Wars and politics can divide families. Add the Voights to that list.
Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight is saying he is “disappointed” in Oscar-winning daughter Angelina Jolie for her public words on the Hamas-Israel war.
Ms. Jolie has called for a cease-fire in Gaza Strip, halting Israel campaign against the Islamist terror group that killed 1,400 civilians on Oct. 7.
Those attacks do not justify “the innocent lives lost in bombing a civilian population in Gaza that has nowhere to go,” Ms. Jolie said.
Not so, said her father.
“This is war … it can’t be civil now,” Mr. Voight said in a video he posted to social media on Friday.
The elder family man said his daughter had “no understanding of God’s honor.”
“This is about destroying the history of God’s land – the Holy Land – the land of the Jews. This is justice for God’s children of the Holy Land,” he continued. “The Israeli army must protect thy soil, thy people.”
Almost 60 actors and other artists on Hollywood’s A-lists have signed an open letter urging President Biden to impose a ceasefire in Gaza. Mr. Voight was not among them, and the video suggests he wouldn’t have been even if invited.
“Israel was attacked by inhuman terror on innocent babies, mothers, fathers, grandparents,” Mr. Voight said. “These animals want to wipe out Jews, Christians.”
“Allow the force of truths and justice to bring us all together and recognize that Hamas and this deceit of their ruling is destroying their own people, not Israel,” he continued.
