Biden to Visit Florida to Assess Damage Caused by Hurricane Idalia

President Biden has announced that he will travel to Florida on Saturday to survey the destruction caused by Hurricane Idalia.

Speaking at FEMA headquarters in Washington on Thursday, Mr. Biden revealed his plans for the trip, although specific details have not yet been provided. The White House has yet to make a formal announcement regarding the visit.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stated on Thursday that the state has suffered significant damage from the hurricane and that rescue efforts are ongoing.

Hurricane Idalia made landfall on Wednesday morning as a Category 3 storm, hitting Keaton Beach on the Gulf Coast with winds reaching up to 125 mph.

Mr. Biden declared a major disaster for Florida on Thursday, authorizing federal aid to support recovery efforts at the state and local levels. This aid can include funding for temporary housing, home repairs, low-cost loans to cover property losses, and various programs to assist individuals in recovering from the disaster.

Furthermore, President Biden called on Congress to approve additional aid for Florida, emphasizing the need for more funding.
